They have attempted and to a large degree succeeded in convincing the public to ride the market down while being parked in mutual funds with no downside protection. Their strategy is designed primarily for one direction, up. Unfortunately this method has created substantial wealth destruction in our society recently. It's a different game now. When I bought my first stock (MCD) in 1985 you could succeed by purchasing fundamentally sound companies for the long haul. Today, 'buy and hold' is dead and is only effective when the market is trending in your direction. Bottom line is you have to cut your losses short and let your profits flow. This can only be accomplished by timing the market while incorporating protective stops (mental or hard) to limit loss and capture gain. Our entire investment model is fueled by education. This is the creative plain. We don't take on a new client unless they are willing to learn. The more the client understands and learns about how we control risk, the more confidence they have, the better they sleep. The better they sleep, the better we sleep."
